Libri Aparte has found the booktrailer to be a flexible and innovative tool for promoting publications. Modelled after film trailers, booktrailers describe art events and books through videos that are only a few seconds long.
In the production of artists’ book trailers, Libri Aparte can follow the various productions phases and play an organisational and coordinating role that involves:
planning the promotional video
coordinating contacts with video makers, and managing equipment, locations and other production needs
producing the video on DVDs and various other versions for publication on the web and in other media
publishing the artists’ trailers in Libri Aparte’s space on Youtube.com (www.youtube.com/libriaparte)
The term “artists’ booktrailer” is used to refer to an art video designed to be a visual document created and produced entirely by video artists to promote and circulate an art publication. It represents added value for a catalogue, art book or art event: a multimedia work that concentrates the communicative and seductive potential of videos, coupled with the possibility of an artist’s signature, becoming not only a promotional tool but also auteur entertainment.
Libri Aparte was the first publisher in Italy – and Europe – to employ the innovative concept of booktrailers to promote specialised art publications, ushering in an unusual approach in which the production of booktrailers is handled entirely by young video artists from around the world.
